New Odisha Flight Connects Bhubaneswar to Jharsuguda, Boosting Economic Growth

Chief Minister launches direct flight to enhance connectivity, tourism, and industrial opportunities in western Odisha.

Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi launched a direct flight service between Bhubaneswar and Jharsuguda on Saturday, August 16, marking a pivotal advancement in the state’s regional connectivity. Operated by Star Air, the service falls under the state’s innovative B-MAAN (Building and Management of Aviation Assets and Network) scheme, which aims to strengthen aviation infrastructure across Odisha. The introduction of this route is expected to significantly reduce travel time between the state capital and western Odisha, fostering greater economic and social integration.

The new flight service, supported by the state government’s viability gap funding under the New Destination Policy, will operate a 76-seater aircraft from Tuesday to Saturday. Chief Minister Majhi emphasized the transformative potential of the route, stating, “This milestone will not only bring western Odisha closer to Bhubaneswar but also catalyze industrial growth, tourism, and cultural exchange.”

The initiative is designed to make air travel more accessible, particularly for underserved regions, while promoting inclusive development and creating new opportunities for businesses and local communities in Jharsuguda, a key industrial hub. State officials highlighted that the direct flight aligns with Odisha’s broader vision of enhancing intra-state connectivity and boosting economic prospects.

By connecting Jharsuguda, known for its industrial significance and proximity to cultural landmarks, with the capital, the service is poised to attract investment and tourism. The government’s financial support ensures the route’s sustainability, addressing previous gaps in regional air links. As Odisha continues to prioritize aviation infrastructure, this launch represents a critical step toward equitable access to air travel and economic empowerment across the state.
