Monsoon Session: Lok Sabha Chaos: Adjourned Amid Opposition Uproar

Protests over Operation Sindoor halt proceedings again.

Lok Sabha proceedings were disrupted for the second day on Tuesday as opposition MPs, including Congress, demanded a discussion on Operation Sindoor, leading to an adjournment until 12 noon. The session, starting at 11 am, saw opposition members raising slogans and displaying placards, pressing for debate on the military strikes conducted by Indian armed forces in Pakistan following the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, which killed 26 people.

Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan urged the opposition to allow Question Hour to address farmers’ issues, stating, “This day belongs to the farmers. Let the House function to discuss the poor, farmers, and villages.” Speaker Om Birla reprimanded the opposition, declaring that sloganeering and placards were prohibited, and warned, “You don’t want the House to run or discuss farmers’ issues.” Despite his intervention, the protests persisted, forcing the adjournment.

The Monsoon session’s first day on Monday was similarly stalled by repeated adjournments over the same demand. Operation Sindoor involved three days of Indian military strikes on Pakistani terror sites and defense installations starting May 7, in response to the Pahalgam attack.
