Manipur Guv Vows Crackdown on Illegal Immigrants during PM Modi's visit.

Governor Bhalla pledges action, unity for Manipur’s progress.

Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla delivered a resolute message on Saturday, urging the people of Churachandpur to stand against illegal settlements by “people from beyond the borders” and assuring that both the state and Central governments are committed to tackling this pressing issue. Speaking at a public gathering in the Kuki-dominated district, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated development projects worth Rs 7,300 crore, Bhalla emphasized a vision of a resilient, united, and prosperous Manipur.

“We cannot allow our land to be encroached by outsiders. The state and Centre are fully committed to taking effective steps to address this challenge,” Bhalla declared, signaling a robust approach to curb illegal immigration in the border state. He highlighted the government’s proactive measures, including a three-phase resettlement plan to rehabilitate those displaced by the ethnic violence that has plagued Manipur since May 2023. “A comprehensive plan for internally displaced persons (IDPs) is underway to ensure their swift resettlement,” he said, noting the deployment of additional security personnel and Quick Reaction Teams (QRTs) to enhance safety and stability.

Bhalla described Churachandpur as a vibrant hub of cultural diversity and resilience, home to a rich tapestry of tribal and ethnic communities that have long contributed to Manipur’s social, cultural, and economic fabric. He praised the Central government’s focus on connectivity, infrastructure, education, and healthcare, which he said has opened new opportunities for the state’s youth. “Churachandpur is not just a place; it is a testament to the strength and diversity of our people,” he added.

The governor tied the region’s development to the broader vision of ‘Viksit Bharat’ (Developed India), emphasizing that bringing progress to the remotest corners of the country is a cornerstone of this initiative. He called for dialogue, understanding, and inclusive governance to heal the wounds of recent conflicts and foster lasting peace. “This is a time to unite and move forward. I am confident that Manipur will emerge stronger, more united, and prosperous,” Bhalla said, urging collective efforts to restore harmony.

As a border district, Churachandpur remains a top priority, with the government prioritizing connectivity and essential infrastructure to bolster its development. Bhalla’s address, delivered amidst Manipur’s ongoing challenges under President’s Rule since February, underscored the state’s determination to address security concerns while advancing economic and social progress. With Modi’s visit signaling renewed Central support, Bhalla’s assurances aim to inspire hope and action toward a brighter future for Manipur.
