Is US Mediating On Kashmir? Congress Questions PM Modi
Congress Questions PM Modi on US Mediation Claims, Demands Clarity on Operation Sindoor Halt
The Congress party has demanded Prime Minister Narendra Modi address US President Donald Trump’s claims that India halted Operation Sindoor due to trade obligations and accepted American mediation on Kashmir.
Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh, in a post on X, questioned, “Has India agreed to US mediation? Has India agreed to a ‘neutral site’ for a dialogue with Pakistan? Will India now give in on US demands for opening Indian markets in autos, agriculture, and other areas?”
Trump claimed his administration averted a “nuclear conflict” between India and Pakistan, promising “a lot of trade” if hostilities ceased.

Congress media head Pawan Khera called Trump’s statement “disturbing,” asking, “We need a clarification from the government of India on whether this operation was stopped due to trade.” Khera criticized Modi’s silence on Trump’s remarks, noting, “We expected the prime minister to respond effectively to the US president. The country came to know of the ‘ceasefire’ from the US president. This is unprecedented.”
In his address, Modi asserted, “India will not tolerate any nuclear blackmail. We have only kept in abeyance our operations against Pakistan, the future will depend on their behaviour.”
He described Operation Sindoor, launched after the April 22 Pahalgam attack, as India’s new anti-terrorism policy, stating, “More than 100 dreaded terrorists were slaughtered.”
Congress reiterated its call for a special parliamentary session to discuss the Pahalgam attack, Operation Sindoor, and the ceasefire, with Ramesh urging Modi to meet all party leaders, saying, “The months ahead will demand painstaking diplomacy and a collective resolve.
