Goods Train Derails Near Ghaziabad, Over 85 Trains Cancelled or Diverted

Rail services on the busy Delhi-Howrah route were significantly disrupted on Monday after six loaded wagons of a goods train derailed on the Ghaziabad-New Delhi section of the Delhi Division. According to Northern Railway, the incident affected the movement of more than 85 trains, leading to cancellations, diversions, partial cancellations and delays. Railway officials confirmed that no casualties or injuries have been reported.

The derailment occurred on the approximately 20-kilometre Ghaziabad-New Delhi stretch, which forms a crucial part of the Delhi-Howrah rail corridor. Northern Railway Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) Himanshu Shekhar Upadhyay said senior officials, including the Divisional Railway Manager (DRM), Additional Divisional Railway Manager (ADRM) and other railway officers, reached the site to oversee restoration work and monitor the situation.

Following the incident, Indian Railways regulated the movement of passenger and freight services to minimise disruption while repair operations continued. Several trains were cancelled, diverted, partially cancelled or delayed as authorities worked to clear the affected section and restore normal traffic. Railway teams have been deployed to remove the derailed wagons and repair damaged tracks.

Passengers travelling on the Delhi-Howrah route and other connected services have been advised to verify the status of their trains before starting their journey. Indian Railways has urged passengers to use the National Train Enquiry System (NTES) and other official railway platforms for the latest updates regarding train schedules, delays and diversions.

The Delhi-Howrah route is one of India's busiest railway corridors, carrying a large volume of passenger and freight traffic every day. Any disruption on this section has a cascading effect on rail services across northern and eastern India, making prompt restoration efforts a priority for railway authorities.

Restoration work is continuing under the supervision of senior railway officials, and authorities are working to resume normal operations at the earliest. The cause of the derailment has not yet been officially disclosed, and a detailed investigation is expected to be carried out after clearance and repair work is completed.
