Four youths killed in head-on motorcycle collision near Guwahati.
A devastating road accident on the Mirza-Palashbari road near Guwahati claimed the lives of four people and left another critically injured in the early hours of Saturday. The collision occurred around 2 am near Bajrapara under the jurisdiction of Palashbari Police Station amid heavy rainfall and poor road conditions.
According to preliminary reports, two motorcycles carrying five youths crashed head-on with significant impact, throwing the riders onto the rain-soaked road. Local residents alerted authorities immediately after the incident, following which a police team from Palashbari Police Station reached the spot and began rescue operations.
The injured victims were rushed to Mirza Hospital for emergency treatment. Doctors reportedly declared three of the victims dead upon arrival, while another later succumbed to injuries during treatment. One person remains critically injured and is undergoing medical care. Authorities said the condition of the survivor is being closely monitored.
The deceased have been identified as Jyoti Kalita from Majirgaon Baruapara, Nikhil Das of Rongamati Dokanipara, and Chandan Jana, while the identity of the fourth victim was not immediately confirmed in the initial reports. Police officials have started an investigation into the exact cause of the accident and are gathering statements from witnesses and local residents.
Preliminary findings suggest that heavy rainfall, slippery roads, and poor visibility may have contributed to the fatal crash. The accident has once again highlighted concerns over road safety during extreme weather conditions in Assam, particularly on highways and rural stretches where visibility and road maintenance often become major challenges during the monsoon season.
