DMRC Shuts 18 Metro Stations in Central Delhi Amid CJP Protests

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has suspended entry and exit at 18 Metro stations across central Delhi for the fourth consecutive day amid heightened security arrangements linked to the ongoing student protests over the alleged NEET paper leak. The restrictions came into effect from 7:30 am on Saturday and will remain in force until further notice. While passengers cannot enter or exit at the affected stations, interchange facilities continue to operate at Rajiv Chowk, Mandi House and Central Secretariat.

According to the DMRC, services on the Airport Express Line have also been partially curtailed, with trains operating only between Dhaula Kuan and Yashobhoomi Dwarka Sector 25. The temporary measures have been implemented as authorities tighten security across central Delhi in anticipation of large gatherings associated with the protests. Commuters have been advised to check travel updates and make alternative arrangements where required.

The 18 Metro stations affected by the restrictions are Lok Kalyan Marg, Rajiv Chowk, Patel Chowk, Ramakrishna Ashram Marg, Barakhambha Road, Supreme Court, Seva Teerth, Janpath, Mandi House, Central Secretariat, ITO, Delhi Gate, Indraprastha, Khan Market, Jor Bagh, Shivaji Stadium, Jhandewalan and New Delhi. Although entry and exit remain suspended at these stations, passengers can continue changing lines at Rajiv Chowk, Mandi House and Central Secretariat without exiting the Metro system.

The restrictions have significantly affected daily travel across the national capital, particularly for office-goers, students, lawyers and other regular commuters who rely on Metro services in central Delhi. With several major stations inaccessible, many passengers have been compelled to use buses, taxis and other forms of road transport, resulting in increased congestion in key areas of the city.

Security has been strengthened across central Delhi as authorities continue to monitor demonstrations over the alleged NEET paper leak. Student groups and supporters have been staging protests demanding accountability and reforms to the public examination system, prompting police to impose traffic and transport restrictions around sensitive locations to maintain law and order.

The DMRC has urged commuters to plan their journeys carefully and stay updated through official service advisories before travelling. Authorities have indicated that the restrictions will remain in place until further instructions, with Metro operations expected to return to normal once the security situation permits and crowd management measures are no longer required.
