Dharmendra Pradhan: NTA Completed Re-Exam in 38 Days Against Usual Timeline

Re-exam conducted far quicker than standard schedule.

Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has hailed the successful conduct of the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (Undergraduate) re-examination, stating that the National Testing Agency (NTA) managed to complete preparations and execution in just 38 days, significantly faster than the usual six-month timeline. Speaking in an interview, the minister congratulated candidates, parents, and officials involved in the nationwide exercise, describing it as a major administrative achievement.

The NEET UG 2026 re-test was conducted on June 21 for more than 20 lakh candidates across 5,440 examination centres in India and 14 centres overseas. According to Pradhan, organising an examination of such scale within a limited timeframe posed a significant challenge. He noted that the NTA typically requires around six months to prepare question papers, coordinate logistics, and conduct the examination, making the 38-day turnaround particularly noteworthy.

Highlighting the measures adopted to ensure the integrity of the examination, the minister said authorities focused on addressing concerns that emerged following the NEET paper leak controversy. He stated that efforts began immediately to overcome previous shortcomings and create a secure examination environment. Officials worked continuously to ensure that the process remained transparent, fair, and free from any possibility of question paper leaks.

Pradhan explained that one of the primary challenges was preparing the question paper while maintaining complete confidentiality. Teachers and subject experts from leading institutions were brought together for the task, while strict security arrangements were put in place. The question-setting process was reportedly conducted under the surveillance of the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF), and experts involved were kept in isolation to preserve secrecy.

The minister further revealed that a multi-layer monitoring mechanism was implemented throughout the examination process. The Indian Air Force, state governments, government ministries, and various administrative agencies were enlisted to support logistics and security operations. According to him, coordinated efforts among all stakeholders helped ensure the smooth conduct of the examination and strengthened confidence in the system.

Expressing optimism about the outcome, Pradhan said students had performed well and were expected to secure strong scores. He extended his best wishes to all candidates and expressed hope that deserving students would gain admission to the country’s leading medical institutions. The minister also thanked state governments, officials, security personnel, and other agencies whose collective efforts contributed to the successful completion of the re-examination.
