Assam Government To Appreciate Digital Creators For Flood Relief Contributions
Assam plans to recognise digital creators supporting flood relief efforts.
The Assam government will recognise YouTubers, social media influencers and other contributors who raised funds during the recent floods and used the money to provide genuine assistance to affected people, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said. The move is intended to acknowledge individuals and organisations whose relief efforts reached flood-hit communities.
The state government has identified 72 YouTube accounts that collected funds during the flood situation and is currently verifying how the money was utilised. Officials are checking whether assistance reached affected families, particularly in Sivasagar and Charaideo, while also gathering information on the locations where relief materials or financial support were distributed.
Sarma noted that several YouTubers had already begun helping flood-affected people, adding that the government wanted to recognise those who made genuine contributions. The fundraising effort was not restricted to content creators from Assam, with individuals and YouTubers from different parts of the country also coming forward to support relief operations in the state.

Authorities are seeking details including the amount of money raised and spent, areas covered and the beneficiaries who received assistance. Some contributions announced during the relief effort included amounts of Rs 2 crore and Rs 50 lakh. The verification process is intended to establish how such funds were used and whether the assistance reached people who needed it.
The government also wants to coordinate private and public relief efforts to prevent multiple organisations from assisting the same families while other flood-affected households receive limited or no support. Sarma clarified that monitoring the funds was not intended to discourage individuals or organisations from contributing to relief work, but to ensure that assistance was distributed effectively.
Contributors whose relief efforts are found to have provided meaningful support could be formally recognised by the state government. Sarma indicated that the recognition may include a gamosa along with a certificate or award, and could cover YouTubers, influencers, NGOs and other organisations. The appreciation may also extend to contributors from outside Assam and abroad who supported flood relief efforts in the state.
