Adani Foundation Expands Assam Flood Relief, Reaches 8,000 Families

The Adani Foundation has launched a large-scale flood relief programme across Upper Assam, reaching nearly 8,000 families affected by recent flooding in the Nazira Sub-Division of Sivasagar district and Silapathar in Dhemaji district. The initiative follows Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani's contribution of Rs 11 crore to the Assam Chief Minister's Relief Fund to support relief, rehabilitation and recovery efforts in the flood-affected regions. The programme is being implemented with the support of Adani Smart Meter and Guwahati International Airport Limited (GIAL), a subsidiary of Adani Airport Holdings Limited (AAHL).

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma acknowledged the contribution on X, stating that the financial assistance would strengthen the state's ongoing relief operations and benefit thousands of families affected by the floods. The donation comes as Assam continues to recover from widespread flooding that disrupted normal life, damaged infrastructure and displaced residents in several districts. Relief and rehabilitation measures remain a priority for the state government and various supporting organisations.

According to the Adani Foundation, each relief kit contains essential food items, medicines, sanitation products and hygiene supplies to help families meet their immediate needs. The distribution drive covers 14 villages in Nazira, including Gurmur Miri (Nepali Basti), Santak Grant, Baligaon, Rojapool Duwarah Gaon, Bamunpukhuri, Gohain Gaon (Komol Sapori), Hulang Katoni, Hulang Kalita, Bengmora Konwar Gaon, Bailung Gaon, Miri Gaon, Ougurijan and Bihubor Grant, in addition to flood-affected areas of Silapathar. Teams have been deployed to ensure that relief materials reach even remote and difficult-to-access locations.

The Foundation said the relief initiative is intended to provide immediate support to families as they begin rebuilding their lives after the floods. Along with distributing essential supplies, the organisation aims to assist communities during the early stages of recovery and help them regain stability. The involvement of multiple Adani Group entities is expected to strengthen the logistical support required for the relief operation across the affected areas.

The Adani Foundation said it remains committed to supporting long-term recovery efforts in Assam beyond the immediate relief phase. The organisation emphasised that its focus is on helping flood-affected communities rebuild their livelihoods while improving resilience against future disasters. As rehabilitation work continues across the state, coordinated efforts by the government, private organisations and local communities are expected to play a crucial role in restoring normalcy in the affected regions.
