Indian Navy’s new recruits at INS Chilka.
A spectacular passing out parade at INS Chilka in Odisha marked the completion of training for 2,010 Agniveers, including 309 women and 276 Indian Coast Guard Naviks (general duty). Vice-Admiral Rajesh Pendharkar, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Eastern Naval Command, reviewed the ceremony, while Commodore B Deepak Aneel conducted the event for the 6th Agniveer batch.
Pendharkar inspired the recruits, highlighting the Indian Navy’s advancements in cutting-edge warships, submarines, naval aviation, and technologies like AI and unmanned systems. “You are now part of a modern, multi-dimensional, mission-ready force safeguarding India’s maritime interests across the Indo-Pacific,” he declared, emphasizing their role in upholding peace and a rules-based global order. He urged the Agniveers to serve with honor, courage, and unwavering commitment.
The Navy, Pendharkar noted, operates in complex environments, from anti-piracy patrols to humanitarian missions. Agniveers, integral to this blue-water force, are trained at INS Chilka to transition from raw recruits into disciplined sea warriors. The post-sunset ceremony, attended by parents, veterans, and sports personalities, celebrated their readiness for service on advanced naval platforms.
