India, Singapore Navies Flex Muscle in SIMBEX 2025
Joint naval exercise strengthens ties in South China Sea.
The Indian Navy and Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN) successfully concluded their 32nd Singapore-India Maritime Bilateral Exercise (SIMBEX) from July 28 to August 1, reinforcing their strong maritime partnership. Held amid the 60th anniversary of diplomatic ties between India and Singapore, the exercise featured a shore phase at RSS Singapura-Changi Naval Base and a sea phase in the southern South China Sea.
The RSN deployed the Formidable-class frigate RSS Supreme, Victory-class corvette RSS Vigilance, and MV Mentor, while the Indian Navy participated with the Shivalik-class frigate INS Satpura. The Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF) supported with an S70B naval helicopter, two Fokker-50 maritime patrol aircraft, and two F-15SG fighter jets. The shore phase included joint planning, simulator training, professional exchanges on Maritime Air Operations and Compliant Boarding Procedures, and sports activities.
At sea, the navies conducted complex warfare drills, including gunnery firing, air-defense exercises, and maritime security operations, culminating in a sail-past of participating ships. “SIMBEX is a testament to the long-standing bilateral ties,” said Lieutenant Colonel Aaron Koh, Commanding Officer of RSS Supreme, highlighting its role in enhancing operational skills and people-to-people connections.

First held in 1994, SIMBEX is India’s longest continuous bilateral naval exercise with any nation. Over the years, it has evolved to include advanced maritime security and multi-domain operations, reflecting the deepening naval cooperation. Beyond SIMBEX, the two navies engage through regular professional exchanges, staff talks, and training, underscoring their commitment to regional stability.
