PM Modi arrives in Kuala Lumpur, greeted by Malaysian PM Anwar Ibrahim for strategic talks.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Kuala Lumpur on Saturday, receiving a warm welcome from Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim at the airport. Excited children waved the Indian tricolour and Malaysian flags as Modi embarked on a two-day visit aimed at strengthening the India-Malaysia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

This marks PM Modi’s third visit to Malaysia and the first since the bilateral ties were elevated to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in August 2024. During the visit, Modi is expected to hold high-level discussions with his Malaysian counterpart on expanding cooperation across defence, security, economic, and innovation sectors.

In a statement before departure, PM Modi emphasized the historic ties between India and Malaysia, highlighting steady progress in recent years. He said the discussions with Anwar Ibrahim would focus on deepening defence and security cooperation while exploring new avenues for collaboration.

The Prime Minister also stressed the importance of the Indian diaspora in Malaysia, calling them a “living bridge” between the two nations. With nearly three million people, the Indian community plays a significant role in Malaysia’s development and contributes to strengthening bilateral relations.

Alongside bilateral talks, PM Modi will engage with members of the Indian community and meet industry and business representatives. The visit also coincides with the 10th India-Malaysia CEO Forum, which will bring together business leaders from both nations to explore investment and trade opportunities.

The visit underscores India’s commitment to enhancing strategic partnerships in Southeast Asia while leveraging economic and cultural ties. Officials from both sides expect agreements and initiatives to be announced that will further solidify cooperation in multiple sectors.
