Netanyahu Condemns Settler Attack In West Bank
Dozens of Israeli settlers attacked the Palestinian village of Qusra in the northern occupied West Bank on Saturday, following nearly three weeks of heightened tensions in the area. The incident drew an unusually strong response from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who condemned the violence and said attacks that violate the law would not be tolerated. The latest confrontation comes after tensions began rising earlier in August, when a group of settlers reportedly blocked supplies from reaching Palestinian homes on the outskirts of Qusra, near Nablus.
Residents were consequently trapped inside their homes, while the actions drew strong criticism from the US ambassador. The dispute has continued for several weeks, with Israeli forces maintaining a presence in the area and settlers continuing to move through the surrounding hills. On Saturday, residents of Qusra and the Israeli military said dozens of settlers entered the village and attacked Palestinians. According to the accounts, the settlers threw stones at residents and barricaded themselves inside a house while Palestinians were inside.
The confrontation added to an already tense situation in the village and prompted renewed attention to violence involving Israeli settlers in the occupied West Bank. Netanyahu's condemnation was notable because criticism of settler violence from senior Israeli officials has at times been politically sensitive. In his response to the latest incident, the prime minister described such actions as violations of the law. His remarks came as security forces continued operating in the area amid the ongoing tensions between Palestinian residents and Israeli settlers.

The violence was not limited to Qusra. In nearby Jalud, masked settlers reportedly attacked members of an NBC News reporting team and a Palestinian woman whom the journalists had gone to interview. NBC News said members of its team were injured during the incident. The attack on journalists and the woman added another dimension to the unrest in the area, where tensions have remained high in recent weeks.
The situation in and around Qusra remains closely watched as Israeli forces continue operations in the region and settlers remain active in the surrounding areas. The latest incidents have raised renewed concerns over violence against Palestinian residents and the safety of journalists working in the West Bank.
