Thar Driver Who Hit Motorcycle on Dwarka Expressway Arrested by Gurugram Police
Police traced the vehicle through its registration number and CCTV footage.
A 29-year-old man was arrested after his Mahindra Thar allegedly hit a motorcycle during a high-speed manoeuvre on the Dwarka Expressway on September 26, police said. The two men travelling on the motorcycle were thrown onto the road after the collision, but escaped more serious injuries after drivers approaching from the opposite direction managed to stop their vehicles in time. Police identified the accused as Manmeet, who uses a single name and is from Mundhal Khurd village in Haryana’s Bhiwani district.
The incident came to light after dashcam footage from a passing vehicle surfaced on social media. The video appeared to show a black Thar moving at high speed and swerving across lanes before striking the motorcycle and continuing away without stopping. The authenticity of the viral footage could not be independently verified. Police said the two motorcycle riders, identified as Rajesh Kumar and Dinesh, did not initially file a complaint against the Bhiwani-registered vehicle. However, a case was registered on Sunday after the video of the incident emerged online.
An FIR was registered at Sector-10A police station under Section 281 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, concerning rash driving or riding on a public way, and Section 125, relating to causing hurt or grievous hurt by an act endangering the life or personal safety of others. Police said the vehicle was traced using the registration number visible in the footage along with CCTV recordings from the area. A team from the Sector-93 police post identified the Thar and traced it to a service station in Sector-93 on Sunday.

According to Sandeep Turan, public relations officer of Gurugram police, the Thar was seized after officers located it at the service station. Police collected details about the vehicle and its driver after finding that the suspect had left the vehicle there. The investigation then led officers to Manmeet, who was subsequently arrested on Tuesday. Police said the identification of the vehicle and the accused was supported by the registration number seen in the video and CCTV footage collected during the investigation.
Investigators also traced the two men who were travelling on the motorcycle when the collision occurred. Police recorded the statements of Rajesh Kumar and Dinesh under Section 180 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita. According to police, both men survived the incident with bruises and cuts. Their statements are expected to form part of the ongoing investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collision and the actions of the Thar driver after the incident.
Police said the investigation into the case is continuing. The incident has drawn attention after the footage appeared to capture the Thar moving across lanes at high speed before hitting the motorcycle and leaving the scene. The arrest followed the police effort to identify the vehicle through the footage and CCTV recordings. Further details about the investigation and any subsequent legal proceedings will depend on the evidence collected by the police and the findings of the case.
