Andhra Pradesh Education and IT Minister Nara Lokesh has condemned the alleged assault of a woman in Guntur district and said the government would follow a “zero tolerance” approach towards crimes against women, regardless of the political background of those accused. The incident has drawn public outrage after video footage of the alleged attack surfaced on social media. The incident reportedly took place in Krishnababu Colony, where a dispute over a house escalated into a violent confrontation between two groups.
According to preliminary information, members of one group allegedly attacked a woman belonging to the opposing faction during the dispute. Police said the incident involved allegations that the woman was assaulted and stripped by members of the rival group. Some transgender persons were also reportedly present during the incident and were alleged to have participated in support of one side. The circulation of CCTV footage from the incident led to widespread criticism and prompted authorities to take action.
Following the complaint, police registered a criminal case and arrested the accused persons involved in the alleged assault. Officials have begun an investigation to establish the sequence of events and determine the role of each individual accused in the incident. The matter gained political attention after it emerged that one of the accused was reportedly associated with the ruling Telugu Desam Party (TDP). The development led to calls for strict action and raised questions over whether political connections could influence the investigation.
