Child Rights Panel Acts on Class 10 Student’s Killing
Gujarat commission demands report on Class 10 student’s death.
The Gujarat State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (GSCPCR) has demanded a detailed report from the Seventh Day Adventist School in Ahmedabad’s Khokhra area following the shocking murder of a Class 10 student, allegedly stabbed to death by a fellow Class 10 student on Tuesday near the school’s main gate. The victim succumbed to his injuries later that night, triggering widespread outrage and protests.
Dharmishtha Gajjar, chairperson of the GSCPCR, acknowledged the public’s anger over the incident, stating, “Such an event naturally sparks fury. We’ve learned an FIR has been filed, and we’ve directed the school to submit a comprehensive report. Appropriate action will follow based on their response.” The commission’s intervention underscores growing concerns over school safety and accountability in the wake of the tragedy.
The incident has fueled intense public backlash, with parents, students, and activists accusing the school management of negligence for failing to provide timely aid to the injured student. On Thursday, at least 20 members of the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI), along with current and former students and their parents, staged protests outside the school, demanding strict action against the administration. The demonstrations follow a violent mob attack on Wednesday, where enraged relatives and community members vandalized school property, including classrooms, buses, and vehicles, alleging inaction by teachers and staff.

City police, anticipating further unrest, deployed a heavy presence outside the school. A city police control room official confirmed, “Twenty NSUI workers were detained during the protests but will be released. The situation is now under control.” Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch) Sharad Singhal clarified that the accused, detained under the Juvenile Justice Act, is also a Class 10 student, not Class 8 as initially reported. The stabbing stemmed from a minor scuffle, with the accused using a sharp object to fatally wound the victim.
Adding to the controversy, a viral Instagram chat allegedly involving the accused has surfaced, showing a chilling exchange where the juvenile boasts about the act, saying, “Jo ho gaya vo ho gaya” (Whatever happened has happened), when questioned by a friend. The friend advises him to “go underground” and delete the chat. Police are investigating the authenticity of these screenshots but have not yet commented officially.
The tragedy has raised serious questions about student safety and conflict management in schools. The ongoing police investigation, now handled by the Ahmedabad Crime Branch, includes reviewing CCTV footage and witness statements to establish the full sequence of events. As the community mourns, the GSCPCR’s call for a report signals a push for accountability, with potential repercussions for the school’s management looming.
