Bengaluru Youths Arrested After Viral Video of Woman Rider Harassment

Bengaluru police arrest three youths for chasing and harassing woman biker.

Bengaluru police have arrested three youths for allegedly chasing and harassing a young woman riding a scooter in the BTM Layout area of the city, an incident that has once again raised concerns over women’s safety in the IT capital. The arrests were made on Saturday after a video of the incident went viral on social media.

The accused have been identified as Shaiek Roshan (19) of Begur, Shaiek Ayan (19) from Old Gurappanpalya in BTM Layout—both employed at a chicken shop—and Shaiek Rihan Khan (18), a resident of BTM Layout who works at a garage. Police also seized the motorcycle used during the incident.

The case came to light after a nine-second video was shared on social media platform X by a whistleblower, Abhinav Vasudevan, who tagged the Bengaluru Police and sought immediate action. In his post, Vasudevan said he witnessed the woman being harassed for several kilometres on a main road before 10 pm and decided to intervene after recording the incident as evidence.

According to police, the incident occurred around midnight on December 25, when the woman was riding her scooter while wearing a helmet. The three accused, riding a motorcycle without helmets, allegedly followed her for nearly two kilometres, passed lewd comments, and rode recklessly in an attempt to intimidate her.

Investigators said the youths deliberately swerved their bike in front of the woman’s scooter to block her path and continued to chase her, causing distress and posing a serious threat to her safety. Vasudevan, who was travelling in a car behind the woman, noticed the harassment, recorded the video, and later alerted the police.

The jurisdictional Sadduguntepalya police registered an FIR, arrested the accused, and remanded them to judicial custody. “Suitable legal action has been initiated,” police said, adding that further investigation is underway. Authorities reiterated their commitment to taking strict action against crimes targeting women and urged citizens to report such incidents promptly.
