Viral Video Reveals Alleged Milk Adulteration with Chemicals in Mumbai’s Andheri

Adulteration racket busted in Andheri with shocking video.

Residents of Andheri West's Kapaswadi area in Mumbai have exposed an alleged large-scale milk adulteration operation, claiming that synthetic milk laced with harmful chemicals is being openly supplied to households. A viral video circulating on social media purportedly captures the moment locals, accompanied by a police personnel, confronted individuals involved in the racket, revealing packets of milk stored in a private residence. The footage has intensified public outrage over potential threats to health, especially among vulnerable groups such as children, women, and the elderly.

In the widely shared video, the person recording—appearing to carry a police baton—enters a room and instructs one of the suspects to demonstrate the adulteration process. The suspect is seen preparing a mixture, with the recorder demanding he "make the product" while questioning his actions. Reports from locals indicate that the counterfeit milk is produced by combining detergent powder, urea, refined oil, soap solution, and other chemicals with a small quantity of genuine milk, effectively doubling the volume through dilution for higher profits.

According to allegations, authorised milk packets are intercepted before reaching consumers and diverted to hidden locations for tampering. The adulterated liquid is then repackaged into new pouches and distributed across nearby neighbourhoods, bypassing official supply chains. Residents assert that this practice has persisted for decades, undermining trust in daily dairy consumption and exposing thousands to contaminated products without their knowledge.

Health experts have highlighted severe risks associated with prolonged ingestion of such synthetic milk, including potential damage to kidneys and liver, stunted growth in children, calcium deficiencies in women, and chronic issues affecting the gastrointestinal system, skin, and eyes. The incident has sparked calls for accountability from regulatory bodies, with demands for thorough investigations into the supply network.

Despite the viral evidence and public demands, neither the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, nor Mumbai Police have issued an official statement confirming the bust or announcing actions. Locals continue to press for immediate raids, sample testing, and stringent penalties, warning that failure to address the issue promptly could lead to a broader public health crisis in the city.
