Bengaluru Couple Found Dead After Domestic Dispute, Police Investigate

Bengaluru couple found dead after argument; police probe underway.

An argument between a Bengaluru couple turned fatal on Wednesday night, with the husband allegedly assaulting and suffocating his wife before later dying by suicide, police said. The couple were identified as Sumant Jain, a civil engineer, and his wife Padmavathi, a software engineer. The incident came to light after Sumant’s mother received a message from him following the alleged assault. Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the deaths and have not yet established the exact sequence of events.

According to the preliminary information, Sumant and Padmavathi were involved in an argument at their home in Bengaluru. The dispute reportedly escalated into a physical confrontation during which Sumant allegedly hit his wife on the face and then suffocated her with a pillow. He later tried to wake her but realised that she was no longer breathing, according to the details available to investigators.

Fearing the consequences of what had happened, Sumant allegedly contacted his mother in a state of panic and informed her about the incident. He also sent her a message. After receiving the communication, his mother contacted the couple’s landlord and asked for the house to be checked. The landlord subsequently opened the residence, where both Sumant and Padmavathi were found dead.

Sumant was found hanging from a ceiling fan in the hall, while Padmavathi was found dead inside the house. The Rajagopal Nagar Police were informed and reached the location soon after receiving information about the incident. Police have registered a case and begun investigating the circumstances that led to the deaths of the couple.

Investigators are examining the events surrounding the reported domestic dispute, including what happened inside the house before and after Padmavathi was found unresponsive. While the initial account alleges that Sumant assaulted and suffocated his wife, officials are yet to establish the precise cause of Padmavathi’s death through the investigation and other legal procedures. Police are also examining the messages sent by Sumant to his mother as part of the inquiry.

The exact sequence of events and circumstances leading to both deaths remain under investigation. Authorities are expected to examine evidence from the residence and gather statements from relatives, the landlord and other relevant individuals as they work to establish what happened on Wednesday night. The case has raised serious questions about the circumstances of the couple’s final hours, with police continuing their investigation before reaching definitive conclusions.
