UP Woman Suffers Miscarriage While Protecting Father-In-Law From Assault

UP woman suffers miscarriage after assault while saving father-in-law.

A pregnant woman allegedly suffered a miscarriage after being assaulted while trying to rescue her elderly father-in-law during an attack in Uttar Pradesh's Bhadohi district, police said. The incident reportedly occurred on July 12 in Bhamaura village, while a First Information Report (FIR) was registered on July 20 after the woman returned home from hospital following treatment.

According to police, the complainant, 20-year-old Nisha Devi, alleged that four brothers from the same village were assaulting her father-in-law with sticks over an old dispute outside their house. When she intervened to stop the attack, she was allegedly assaulted as well. In her complaint, she alleged that one of the accused repeatedly kicked her in the abdomen during the incident.

Police said the woman allegedly collapsed on the road with severe injuries, prompting local residents to intervene. According to investigators, the accused fled the scene after people gathered. Family members then took both the injured elderly man and the woman home before arranging medical treatment.

The woman's father-in-law was admitted to a Community Health Centre for treatment, while Nisha's condition reportedly worsened, leading to her transfer to a private hospital. Police said she subsequently suffered a miscarriage during the course of treatment. Authorities have not released further details regarding her medical condition.

Station House Officer Rajesh Kumar Singh said an FIR has been registered against the four accused under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Police have initiated an investigation into the allegations and are collecting evidence related to the assault and the injuries sustained by the victims.

Officials said efforts are underway to trace and arrest the accused. The investigation remains ongoing, and police said further legal action will be taken based on the findings of the inquiry and evidence gathered during the course of the case.
