Review Screening Of Vijay’s Jana Nayagan By CBFC Deferred, New Date Pending

CBFC postpones Vijay’s Jana Nayagan review; new certification date not yet set.

The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has postponed the review screening of actor Vijay’s upcoming film Jana Nayagan, which was originally scheduled for Monday, sources said. The film is now set to be examined by a revising committee before a final certification decision is made.

A CBFC board member will preside over the new review, joined by a fresh set of advisory panel members. According to sources, the postponement occurred after one of the committee members fell ill. The production house, KVN Productions, received formal notification of the delay on Sunday, but no rescheduled date for the screening has been announced.

Jana Nayagan was initially slated for release on January 9, 2026, but its launch was delayed due to complications in the certification process. A CBFC committee had reviewed the film in December 2025, suggesting certain excisions that the filmmakers reportedly implemented. However, the review was reopened after a committee member filed a complaint claiming that the film hurt the sentiments of some religious groups and that the armed forces were not consulted before their logos were used in the film.

Following the complaint, the CBFC chairperson decided to refer the film to a revising committee for re-evaluation. In parallel, KVN Productions had filed a petition with the Madras High Court challenging the CBFC’s decision to conduct a fresh review. The producers recently submitted a request to withdraw the petition from the court registry.

The film features an ensemble cast, including Mamitha Baiju, Bobby Deol, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Prakash Raj, Priyamani, Pooja Hegde, and Narain. For now, the film’s release remains pending, with the final certification decision dependent on the revising committee’s screening and evaluation. The postponement adds to the anticipation surrounding one of the most awaited Tamil films of 2026.
