Vijay's Jana Nayagan Delayed Again, No Release Before April 30: Canada Distributor Confirms

Advance tickets cancelled as certification troubles continue to stall Vijay’s much-awaited film.

The much-anticipated Tamil film Jana Nayagan, starring Vijay, has hit another roadblock, with its release now unlikely before April 30. Canada-based distributor York Cinemas officially announced the cancellation of all advance bookings, confirming that the film will not meet its previously expected release timeline. The development has disappointed fans who were eagerly awaiting the actor’s next big-screen outing.

In a statement shared on its official social media platforms, York Cinemas directed customers to ensure their refunds are processed at the earliest. The theatre management clarified that any pending refunds would be handled upon direct contact. Earlier, VIP members were allowed to temporarily retain their bookings, but the latest announcement invalidates all advance tickets until a new release date is finalized.

York Cinemas, based in Ontario and known for screening Indian films, had earlier introduced a VIP Membership priced at CAD 89.99. The membership promised priority access to the film’s first-day, first-show (FDFS), making it a premium offering for Vijay’s overseas fan base. The theatre has now assured VIP members that they will receive priority booking privileges once the revised release date is confirmed.

Originally slated for a worldwide theatrical release on January 9 as part of the Pongal festive lineup, the film’s launch was stalled due to certification complications. The movie was submitted to the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) in December 2025. While the initial reviewing committee reportedly recommended a “U/A” certificate with minor cuts, the process encountered delays following anonymous complaints.

The objections claimed that certain scenes in the film hurt religious sentiments and allegedly misused armed forces emblems. Production house KVN Productions approached both the Madras High Court and the Supreme Court seeking relief. However, on February 10, the producers withdrew their petition and opted to proceed before the CBFC’s Revising Committee, leaving fans awaiting further updates on the film’s fate.
