Vidyut Jammwal’s Vegan Diet Surprises Co-Star Andrew Schulz During Street Fighter Filming
Andrew Schulz recalls meeting Vidyut Jammwal, surprised by his no-protein diet during the Street Fighter shoot.
Actor-comedian Andrew Schulz shared a hilarious anecdote about his first encounter with Bollywood action star Vidyut Jammwal on the set of the upcoming Street Fighter reboot, revealing that the ripped martial artist “doesn’t believe in protein” and calls it a “myth”. On the latest episode of his Brilliant Idiots podcast with Aakash Singh, Schulz recounted mistaking Jammwal’s signature bohemian style—flowy robes and dreadlocks—for his Dhalsim costume, teasing him relentlessly until producers clarified it was his everyday look. “This went on for 10 minutes where I kept putting my foot in my mouth,” Schulz admitted, still baffled by the Commando star’s chiselled physique sans animal protein.
The revelation stunned co-host Singh, who probed if Jammwal was vegetarian, prompting Schulz’s deadpan “no follow-up questions”. A panellist gawked at Jammwal’s photo, quipping, “If I could look like that not eating protein, it’d be crazy.” Jammwal, a lifelong vegetarian and PETA advocate, has long credited plant-based sources like tofu, pulses, nuts, seeds, and post-workout shakes for fuelling his Kalaripayattu-honed frame—famously telling sceptics he gets protein “exactly where elephants, horses, and rhinos do: plants.”
Jammwal’s Hollywood breakout casts him as the stretchy, fire-breathing yogi Dhalsim in Legendary’s Street Fighter, directed by Kitao Sakurai and slated for October 2026 theatres via Paramount. The ensemble boasts Jason Momoa (Blanka), Noah Centineo (Ken), Andrew Koji (Ryu), Roman Reigns (Akuma), Cody Rhodes (Guile), 50 Cent (Balrog), David Dastmalchian (M. Bison), and Schulz as Dan Hibiki—marking the third live-action take on Capcom’s iconic 1987 arcade smash.

Filming wrapped principal photography in Australia earlier this year, with Jammwal’s real-life martial arts mastery—trained since age three—making him a fan-favourite pick for the pacifist fighter who battles to feed his village. The clip from Schulz’s pod has exploded online, blending awe at Jammwal’s vegan gains with excitement for a reboot that promises authentic fight choreography over past adaptations’ campy misfires.
