Priyanka Chopra Shines in ‘Heads of State,’ Says Director
Naishuller praises her charm, professionalism
Filmmaker Ilya Naishuller hailed Priyanka Chopra Jonas as the perfect choice for the MI6 agent Noel Bisset in his action-comedy “Heads of State,” streaming on Prime Video. In an interview with PTI, the Russian-born director, known for “Nobody” and “Hardcore Henry,” described Priyanka as a “fantastically warm” and charming professional who won him over in a 45-second Zoom call. “She was the only actress I talked to for this role,” he said, noting her courage in transitioning from Indian stardom to Hollywood.
Naishuller, who shares a similar journey of breaking into new markets, admired Priyanka’s ambition to “crack America.” On set, she balanced co-stars John Cena and Idris Elba, playing a key ally to their clashing US and British presidents facing a global threat. “She’d sit on an apple box between scenes, curious and engaging,” he recalled, likening her role to the third wheel in a “tricycle” dynamic.
Drawing inspiration from Jackie Chan films, Naishuller crafted a “grounded ridiculous” movie blending chaotic action with humor, cutting jokes to maintain balance. Priyanka’s preparation and vibrant presence elevated the film, which also stars Paddy Considine, Stephen Root, and Jack Quaid.
