Rahul Dev Reveals He Was Forgotten by Industry After 4.5 Years Break Following Wife’s Death

Rahul Dev recently opened up about the emotional and professional struggles he faced after the death of his wife, Rina Dev, who passed away in 2009 following a long battle with cancer. The actor revealed that stepping away from the film industry to raise his son as a single parent came at a heavy professional cost, as he found it difficult to rebuild his career after several years away from work.

Speaking about that difficult phase, Rahul Dev shared that he took a break of nearly four-and-a-half years to focus entirely on his son, Siddharth, after losing his wife. However, when he attempted to return to acting, he felt disconnected from the industry despite having worked in more than 80 films earlier in his career. The actor admitted that the long absence made him feel as though people in the industry had forgotten him completely.

Rahul Dev said that reality show Bigg Boss became one of the first major opportunities that helped him restart his career. He credited his spiritual guru for encouraging him to accept the offer and regain confidence during a difficult time in his life. According to the actor, he initially hesitated to join the show, but eventually realised he needed to begin somewhere in order to rebuild his professional life.

Despite the struggles, Rahul Dev said he never developed bitterness towards the film industry. He explained that his decision to step away from acting was entirely personal and driven by family circumstances. The actor added that while the break affected his visibility in the industry, he also acknowledges that the entertainment world had given him significant opportunities throughout his career.

Rahul Dev married Rina Dev in 1998, and the couple later welcomed their son Siddharth. Following Rina’s death in 2009, the actor raised his son on his own. He is currently in a relationship with Mugdha Godse, with whom he has been in a live-in relationship since 2013. Rahul Dev also suffered another personal loss last year after the death of his brother, Mukul Dev, at the age of 54.

On the work front, Rahul Dev will next appear in the Punjabi film Mor Sab Da Banuga, directed by Ashish Kumar and scheduled for release on October 2, 2026. He will also feature in Welcome to Jungle alongside actors including Akshay Kumar, Suniel Shetty, Sanjay Dutt, Paresh Rawal and Arshad Warsi.
