Ayushmann-Sara Film Crew Attacked in Prayagraj; Suspect Caught

Crew member attacked during Prayagraj shoot; suspect arrested.

A violent incident disrupted the filming of Pati Patni Aur Woh 2, starring Ayushmann Khurrana and Sara Ali Khan, in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, when local residents allegedly assaulted a crew member on August 27. The altercation occurred on Thornhill Road in the Civil Lines area during a shoot for the romantic comedy, directed by Mudassar Aziz and produced by BR Chopra Films. The attack targeted Zoheb Solapurwala, the production head, leading to the arrest of the main accused, Meraj Ali, following a police investigation.

According to Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (City) Abhijeet Kumar, the incident stemmed from a dispute during a car sequence shoot, which caused traffic disruptions near All Saints Cathedral. Line producer Saurabh Tiwari filed a complaint on August 28, resulting in an FIR at Civil Lines Police Station under sections of the Indian Penal Code and the IT Act, 2008.

Social media videos capturing the assault and a heated exchange between the actors—likely part of the scripted scene—have gone viral, amplifying concerns about set security.

The All Indian Cine Workers Association condemned the attack, criticizing the Uttar Pradesh government’s inability to ensure safety for film productions. The incident has sparked debate about the challenges of shooting in public spaces, with locals citing traffic disruptions as a trigger for the unrest.

As the Pati Patni Aur Woh 2 shoot continues until September 11, police have deployed additional security to prevent further incidents, while the film industry calls for stronger protections for crews working on location.
