Adnan Sami Defends RSS Meet: 'I Am a Free Soul'

Adnan Sami defends meeting with RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat and dismisses social media trolling.

Singer and Composer Adnan Sami has responded strongly to criticism he faced on social media after sharing photographs from his meeting with Mohan Bhagwat earlier this year. The singer said he does not care about public judgment regarding his personal interactions and described himself as a “free soul” who is answerable only to God. Sami’s comments came after he faced online trolling following his Instagram post featuring the RSS chief in February.

In an interview discussing the controversy, Adnan Sami said he has become increasingly unconcerned about how people perceive him online. He stated that he prefers judging individuals based on his own experiences rather than relying on public opinion or political narratives. The singer added that if someone treats him with kindness and respect, he responds similarly regardless of their background or public image. Sami also emphasized that he no longer filters his actions to satisfy online audiences or critics.

The singer blamed social media culture for encouraging people to make quick assumptions without understanding the full context of situations. According to Sami, many online users form opinions based on limited exposure, such as photographs, songs, or short clips, and then pass sweeping judgments about public figures. He argued that such reactions are often driven by superficial impressions and misinformation rather than genuine understanding. Sami further claimed that many individuals participating in online trolling are not actual fans but people seeking attention or controversy.

The controversy began after Adnan Sami shared pictures from his meeting with Mohan Bhagwat on Instagram in February. In the post, the singer described the interaction as an “incredible afternoon” and praised Bhagwat for addressing what he called myths and misconceptions. Sami also referred to the RSS chief as an “incredible gentleman” and a “beautiful soul,” remarks that triggered strong reactions from sections of social media users who criticised the meeting and questioned the singer’s political positioning.

Over the years, Adnan Sami has frequently found himself at the center of public debates, particularly regarding his citizenship, political opinions, and public associations. Born in the United Kingdom and previously holding Pakistani citizenship, Sami became an Indian citizen in 2016 and has since openly expressed his support for India on several occasions. His comments and public appearances have often attracted both praise and criticism across social and political circles, making him a regular subject of online discussion.

Despite the backlash, Sami indicated that he has no intention of changing his approach to public life or social interactions. The singer recently returned to the music scene with his latest single “Lipstick,” which he described as a feel-good track celebrating individuality and self-confidence. Known for popular songs such as "Tera Chehra," "Kabhi To Nazar Milao," and “Lift Kara De,” Sami remains one of the most recognized singers in Indian pop and film music despite continuing public controversies surrounding his personal and political views.
