Rahul Roy Responds to Viral Reel Controversy, Cites Financial Struggles and Post-Stroke Recovery
Aashiqui star Rahul Roy responds to viral reel trolls, reveals post-stroke financial struggles.
Actor Rahul Roy has responded strongly to online trolling after a viral social media reel featuring him dancing with a content creator drew mocking comments across platforms. Roy, who rose to fame with the 1990 blockbuster Aashiqui, shared a statement on Instagram defending his work and hinting at financial pressures linked to ongoing legal matters. He said criticism of his efforts reflected more on the trolls than on him.
In his post, Roy said he continues to work with honesty and modesty while dealing with expenses connected to legal issues that predate the brain stroke he suffered in 2020. He suggested that those genuinely concerned about his situation should help him secure meaningful employment rather than ridicule him online. The actor said he was earning through hard work and not by mocking others.
Roy also explained that staying professionally active has become important for his mental and emotional well-being following his medical setback. He said continuing to work gives him a sense of purpose and responsibility and helps keep his mind engaged. While acknowledging that the process can sometimes be difficult, he added that challenges would not break his resolve.

The controversy began after reels featuring Roy with a content creator circulated widely on social media. In one of the clips, he was seen dancing to Tere Dar Pe Sanam, a song associated with the 1993 film Phir Teri Kahani Yaad Aayi, which starred Roy alongside Pooja Bhatt. The video attracted large attention, but much of it came in the form of sarcastic or dismissive commentary.
Several online users questioned why the actor had taken up such appearances, while others made jokes about the nature of the content. The incident once again highlighted how former celebrities can become subjects of viral attention that blurs the line between entertainment and public humiliation. Roy’s response was widely seen as an attempt to reclaim dignity and explain the realities behind such work.
Rahul Roy became an overnight star with Aashiqui and later appeared in films including Junoon, Dilwale Kabhi Na Hare, and Gumrah. He returned to mainstream attention after winning the first season of Bigg Boss in 2007. In 2020, he suffered a brain stroke while filming LAC: Live the Battle in Kargil and has since focused on recovery while gradually resuming professional commitments.
