Aditya Dhar Clarifies: Ranveer Singh’s Dhurandhar Not Based on Major Mohit Sharma
Director Aditya Dhar dismisses rumours linking his upcoming spy thriller to the decorated Army hero.
Filmmaker Aditya Dhar has officially addressed the speculation surrounding his upcoming film Dhurandhar, clarifying that the storyline bears no connection to the life of Indian Army officer Major Mohit Sharma. The director’s statement comes after social media discussions linked the film’s premise and lead character to the Ashoka Chakra awardee, prompting Dhar to issue a formal clarification ahead of the film’s release on December 5, 2025.
The debate gained traction after Madhur Sharma, brother of the late Major Mohit Sharma, commented on an X post suggesting that Dhurandhar might be inspired by the soldier’s life. Responding to the speculation, Aditya Dhar wrote, “Our film Dhurandhar is not based on the life of braveheart Major Mohit Sharma AC(P) SM. This is an official clarification.” The director further added that if he were to ever create a biopic on the officer in future, it would be done with the family’s full consent and active collaboration to ensure the portrayal honors the late hero’s sacrifice and legacy.
Rumours intensified after actor Ranveer Singh’s stern and heavily armed look from the film surfaced online. Fans quickly drew parallels between his character and the Special Forces officer, citing visual similarities and the action-heavy espionage backdrop. As online discussions grew, Dhar stepped in to end speculation before it overshadowed the film’s original concept.

Positioned as a fast-paced spy thriller, Dhurandhar revolves around a mysterious Indian intelligence operative played by Ranveer Singh. The ensemble cast includes Arjun Rampal as ISI Major Iqbal, R. Madhavan as intelligence strategist Ajay Sanyal, Akshaye Khanna as Rehman Dakait, and Sanjay Dutt as Chaudhary Aslam. Each character has a symbolic title—ranging from “The Angel of Death” to “The Apex Predator”—suggesting an intricate web of alliances and betrayals at the heart of the story.
Major Mohit Sharma, whose life became a talking point in this discussion, was an officer of the 1st Para (Special Forces) and was posthumously awarded the Ashoka Chakra for gallantry during a mission in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara sector in 2009. While Dhurandhar is not based on his story, Dhar’s respectful acknowledgment of the officer’s legacy has been welcomed by many online users. The film now enters its final promotion phase ahead of its December theatrical release, promising an original narrative of intrigue, patriotism, and power.
