Apple's Sept 9 Event: iPhone 18 Pro, First Foldable iPhone Expected

Apple is set to host its major September product event, where the company is expected to unveil its next generation of premium iPhones along with new Apple Watch models and other devices. The event could be particularly significant as Apple is reportedly preparing to introduce its first foldable iPhone. The company has not officially confirmed the complete list of products that will be launched.

The iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max are expected to be among the main announcements. Reports suggest the two models could retain a design similar to their predecessors while receiving upgrades to performance, cameras and display technology. The devices are expected to feature Apple’s next-generation A20 Pro chip, a smaller Dynamic Island and the company’s C2 modem. New colour options and changes to the Camera Control system have also been reported.

The iPhone 18 Pro Max could receive additional hardware changes, including a slightly larger battery enabled by a thicker design. A variable-aperture main camera has also been tipped as a possible Pro Max-exclusive feature. Such a system would allow the camera aperture to adjust according to lighting conditions, potentially offering greater control over exposure and depth of field. These specifications, however, remain unconfirmed until Apple makes its official announcement.

The most closely watched product could be Apple’s long-rumoured foldable iPhone. Reports suggest the device could use a book-style folding design, with an outer display of around 5.5 inches that opens into a larger screen measuring approximately 7.8 inches. The device is expected to prioritise a slim profile and could reportedly use Touch ID instead of Face ID. It may also feature two rear cameras, unlike the three-camera arrangement expected on the Pro models.

Apple is also expected to introduce new smartwatch models, potentially including the Apple Watch Series 12 and Apple Watch Ultra 4. The watches are tipped to receive faster processors and improvements to health and fitness features while retaining familiar designs. AirPods 5 could also be announced, with reports pointing to multiple versions and improvements in audio performance. Apple may additionally reveal updates to its smart-home products during the event.

The regular iPhone 18 may not be part of the September launch, according to reports about a possible change in Apple’s release strategy. The standard iPhone 18, iPhone 18e and a second-generation iPhone Air are reportedly being moved to a spring 2027 launch window, leaving the September event focused on premium models. While the iPhone 18 Pro lineup and foldable iPhone are widely expected, Apple has yet to confirm these plans, meaning the final product lineup and specifications could differ.
