Google Poised to Capture 18% Market Share With 2 Million Smart Glasses Sales This Year
Google is projected to sell over 2 million Android XR smart glasses, ranking second globally after Meta.
Google could sell more than two million units of its upcoming Android XR-powered smart glasses in 2026, according to a new report by market intelligence firm Smart Analytics Global (SAG). The forecast comes shortly after Google and Samsung showcased their next-generation smart glasses at Google I/O 2026, signaling a renewed push into the wearable technology market and intensifying competition with industry leader Meta.
The report suggests that if supply chain operations remain stable and there are no major launch delays, Google could emerge as the second-largest global player in the AI smart glasses market. SAG estimates that the company may capture nearly 18 percent of the worldwide AI smart glasses market share. Analysts noted that pricing will play a critical role in determining the final sales performance, especially as competition in the wearable AI segment continues to increase.
Google and Samsung are expected to launch both audio AI glasses and display-equipped smart glasses, though the first products entering the market later this year are likely to focus on audio-based features. The smart glasses are expected to support both Android and iOS devices and integrate advanced artificial intelligence capabilities powered by Google’s Android XR platform and Gemini AI technologies. Industry observers view the launch as one of Google’s most significant hardware initiatives in wearable computing in recent years.

To strengthen its market reach, Google has partnered with Warby Parker and Gentle Monster for the design and production of the smart glasses. According to the report, the partnerships are strategically important because they target different consumer demographics. Warby Parker is known for its broad retail presence and accessible pricing in North America, while Gentle Monster has established itself as a premium fashion eyewear brand with a strong presence across Asia and global fashion markets.
The SAG report highlighted that Meta currently dominates the AI smart glasses segment, largely due to the commercial success of its Ray-Ban smart glasses lineup. Analysts noted that it took Meta several years to establish consumer trust and build sufficient brand recognition in the category. However, Google’s collaboration with Samsung and established eyewear brands could help accelerate adoption and position the company as a serious competitor in the rapidly expanding wearable AI market.
The broader AI smart glasses industry is also projected to witness significant growth over the next year. SAG forecasts that global AI smart glasses shipments could rise by 85 percent year-on-year in 2026, crossing 15 million units worldwide. Audio AI smart glasses are expected to remain the dominant category because they are lighter, relatively affordable, and face fewer privacy and regulatory concerns compared to display-equipped wearable devices.
