Teenage Winger Jeremy Monga Joins Manchester City On Long-Term Five-Year Contract

Jeremy Monga completes long-term move to Manchester City.

Manchester City have completed the signing of teenage winger Jeremy Monga from Leicester City on a five-year contract, the Premier League club announced on Saturday. One of England's brightest young prospects, Monga joins the reigning top-flight side after attracting interest from several leading clubs. Although City did not disclose the transfer fee, British media reports have valued the deal at around £10 million (approximately $13 million) including add-ons, with the contract set to run until 2031.

Monga arrives at the Etihad Stadium after making a rapid rise through Leicester City's ranks. He made his Premier League debut for the Foxes at just 15 years of age, becoming one of the youngest players ever to appear in England's top flight. The winger went on to make 37 senior appearances for Leicester and also became the youngest player to start a match for the club, underlining his reputation as one of the country's most promising young talents.

The 17-year-old made his first Premier League appearance as a second-half substitute in Leicester's 3-0 defeat to Newcastle United in April 2025 under then-manager Ruud van Nistelrooy. He earned his first senior start a few months later in a League Cup fixture against Huddersfield Town in August 2025. An England Under-19 international, Monga is also the third-youngest player to feature in Premier League history, behind Ethan Nwaneri and Max Dowman.

Speaking after completing the move, Monga expressed his excitement at joining the Manchester club. "When I became aware that Manchester City were interested, I knew instantly this was the right choice for me," he said. "For any young footballer, to become part of this amazing club is a dream come true. This has been the best club in England over the past 10 years." He also pointed to the opportunities City have provided academy graduates, citing players such as Phil Foden and Nico O'Reilly as examples of a clear pathway to the first team.

Monga added that City's commitment to developing young talent played a significant role in his decision. "It has also handed opportunities to players from the academy like Phil Foden and Nico O'Reilly, which shows that the pathway is there. It is a privilege to be here and I'm delighted to have joined," he said. His arrival is expected to strengthen City's long-term plans as the club continues to invest in emerging talent capable of making the step up to senior football.

Monga becomes the third English player to join Manchester City during the current transfer window, following the arrivals of goalkeeper Pierce Charles and club-record signing Elliot Anderson. His signing reflects the club's continued focus on recruiting highly rated domestic talent while building for the future. Supporters will now be eager to see whether the highly regarded winger can follow in the footsteps of City's successful academy graduates and establish himself in the first-team squad over the coming seasons.
