Thomas Tuchel Confirms England Nearly At Full Strength Before Norway Quarter-Final

England regain key players before crucial World Cup quarter-final.

England head coach Thomas Tuchel has received a significant fitness boost ahead of his side's FIFA World Cup 2026 quarter-final against Norway, confirming that nearly his entire squad is available for selection for Saturday's clash at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, Florida. The only player unavailable is suspended defender Jarell Quansah, who will miss the match following a red card in England's Round of 16 victory over Mexico. Tuchel said the squad's overall fitness has given the coaching staff confidence as the team prepares for one of its toughest tests of the tournament.

Speaking ahead of the knockout encounter, Tuchel expressed satisfaction with his players' condition after the latest training session. Midfielder Declan Rice and defenders Marc Guehi and Reece James, who had trained separately earlier in the week, returned to full training, providing England with additional defensive and midfield options. The only absentee from training was Jordan Henderson, who suffered a broken arm in a post-match accident after England's dramatic 3-2 win over co-hosts Mexico. Tuchel also said the team is awaiting clarification from FIFA regarding Quansah's upgraded two-match suspension but declined to reveal who would replace him.

The England manager said his side has made steady progress throughout the tournament but stressed that reaching the quarter-finals is only another step toward their ultimate objective. He emphasized that the players remain determined, hungry, and focused on achieving their dream of lifting the World Cup trophy. Tuchel added that his coaching philosophy has been to build on England's traditional strengths, encouraging an aggressive, front-foot style of football while maintaining the competitiveness, resilience, and fighting spirit that have long defined English football.

England enter the quarter-final in impressive form, having won their last three matches while scoring at least two goals in each victory. Jude Bellingham's brace and Harry Kane's penalty proved decisive in the thrilling win over Mexico despite England playing much of the second half with 10 men. Their consistent attacking displays and improved cohesion have strengthened belief within the squad as they prepare for another high-pressure knockout contest.

Norway, meanwhile, have emerged as one of the surprise performers of the tournament after securing a historic place in the World Cup quarter-finals for the first time. Ståle Solbakken's side stunned five-time champions Brazil with a 2-1 victory inspired by Erling Haaland's two goals. The Scandinavian nation has scored 12 goals in five matches, although they are still seeking their first-ever World Cup victory against a fellow European side. Tuchel acknowledged that the competition only becomes more challenging from this stage, with either defending champions Argentina or Switzerland awaiting the winners in the semi-finals, but insisted England's full focus remains firmly on overcoming Norway.
