Sri Lanka A Beats Afghanistan A By 103 Runs To Reach Tri-Nation Final
Sri Lanka A beats Afghanistan A to reach Tri-Nation final match on Sunday.
Sri Lanka A booked their place in the Tri-Nation Series final with a commanding 103-run win over Afghanistan A at the Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium on Friday. The result confirmed a title clash between Sri Lanka A and India A on Sunday, setting up another meeting between the two sides after their recent heated on-field exchange involving young India batter Vaibhav Sooryavanshi.
Batting first, Sri Lanka A posted a strong total of 322 for 8 in 50 overs, powered by an impressive century from opener Avishka Fernando. Fernando scored 110 and laid the foundation for the innings with a 133-run opening partnership alongside Niroshan Dickwella, who contributed a fluent 66 before being dismissed.
Afghanistan A struggled to contain Sri Lanka A’s top order, though Faridoon Dawoodzai and Farmanullah delivered important breakthroughs. Dawoodzai finished with four wickets, while Farmanullah picked up three, helping Afghanistan A restrict further damage after Sri Lanka A looked set for an even bigger total.

Chasing 323, Afghanistan A failed to build enough partnerships and were bowled out for 219 in 42.5 overs. Hassan Eisakhil was the standout performer with 74, while Bahir Shah added 35, but the rest of the batting order could not offer sustained resistance against a disciplined Sri Lankan bowling attack.
The 103-run victory ensured Sri Lanka A finished the round-robin stage strongly and entered the final with momentum. Afghanistan A, meanwhile, exited the tournament after failing to chase down a challenging target in a must-win contest against a confident Sri Lankan side.
Sunday’s final between India A and Sri Lanka A is expected to draw attention after the previous match between the teams saw tense moments involving Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and some Sri Lanka A players. With both sides showing strong form, the final promises to be a competitive contest in the Tri-Nation Series.
