Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Faces ‘Go Home’ Sledge As India A-Sri Lanka A Clash Turns Ugly

Post-match altercation overshadows India A’s Super Over defeat.

A tense post-match controversy erupted after the fourth match of the tri-nation series between India A and Sri Lanka A, following reports of a verbal altercation involving India A batter Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and a Sri Lanka A player after a Super Over finish. The incident has drawn attention due to claims of on-field sledging, disputed match conditions and confusion surrounding the decision to proceed with the tie-breaker.

The match itself ended dramatically with Sri Lanka A winning after a Super Over, but tensions reportedly escalated immediately after the conclusion of play. According to media reports, Sri Lanka A player Vishen Halambage allegedly told the 15-year-old Sooryavanshi to “go home,” which left the Indian batter visibly upset. The exchange reportedly led to a brief physical confrontation before officials and players intervened to de-escalate the situation.

Following the incident, discussions are said to have taken place within the Sri Lanka A dressing room regarding the conduct on the field. Some members reportedly suggested issuing an apology to the India A team in light of the altercation and broader concerns around the match environment. Questions were also raised about the decision to proceed with the Super Over under fading light conditions.

Reports indicate that India A captain Tilak Varma was involved in an animated exchange with match officials before the Super Over, with claims that he advocated for the tie-breaker to be played after the match ended in a 265-run tie. The Sri Lanka A camp, however, is believed to have expressed reservations about continuing under deteriorating visibility, adding to the post-match debate over fairness and playing conditions.

According to match officials, the Super Over was allowed to proceed under the condition that it could be halted if lighting conditions worsened further. However, play continued despite claims that visibility had deteriorated. A Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) official later stated that “there should never have been a Super Over in the first place,” reflecting dissatisfaction with the decision-making process during the closing stages of the match.

The contest had already been marked by controversy earlier, when Sri Lanka A were awarded 10 penalty runs due to India A’s alleged infringement of the protected area on the pitch. Those runs, given at the start of the innings, proved significant in the final outcome. The combination of disciplinary penalties, disputed umpiring decisions and post-match tensions has now made the match one of the most talked-about fixtures of the series.
