PV Sindhu Caught in Dubai War Zone: Blast Near Her Team as Iran Missiles Strike the City

Sindhu reports an explosion near her team at Dubai Airport amid Iran's retaliatory missile strikes.

Indian badminton star PV Sindhu shared a harrowing update after being stranded in Dubai due to suspended flight operations amid escalating US-Israel strikes on Iran. The All England Open participant was caught in the chaos at Dubai International Airport, where rising tensions in the Gulf region have disrupted air travel and forced the evacuation of thousands of passengers. Sindhu described the situation as “extremely tense” and recounted a close call involving an explosion near where she and her team were stationed.

On Sunday morning, Sindhu wrote on X that a sudden explosion occurred close to the area where she and her team had taken shelter. She said her coach had to run quickly to avoid smoke and debris, highlighting the perilous conditions at the airport. “It was an extremely tense and scary moment for all of us,” Sindhu added, providing a personal glimpse into the uncertainty faced by stranded travelers amid the regional conflict.

The badminton ace confirmed that authorities had since moved her and her team to a safer location within the airport. “We are all safe now and have been moved to a more secure place, thanks to the tireless efforts of the staff at Dubai Airport and the Dubai authorities,” she wrote. Sindhu also thanked the Indian High Commission in Dubai for their support, emphasizing the coordinated efforts to ensure the safety of Indian nationals during the crisis.

Sindhu described the ordeal as ongoing and emotionally taxing, urging patience while waiting for the situation to stabilize. “For now, we are trying to get some rest and hold on to hope as we wait for things to settle,” she added, underscoring the human impact of geopolitical tensions on international travelers and athletes participating in global sporting events.

The escalation follows a major US-Israel offensive on Iran launched on Saturday, which has targeted several sites and prompted Tehran to retaliate. The offensive has intensified tensions in the Gulf region, leading to the closure of airspace over key transit hubs including Dubai. Airlines such as Emirates and Air India have been forced to suspend operations, stranding thousands of passengers and creating logistical challenges for authorities.

Regional experts warn that the unfolding conflict could continue to disrupt air travel and affect foreign nationals in the Gulf. With Iranian strikes and retaliatory measures escalating, authorities in Dubai and the UAE have activated emergency response systems, while Indian officials are coordinating efforts to assist citizens like Sindhu. Travelers are being urged to follow official guidance and stay in secure locations until the situation stabilizes.
