Pujara Bids Goodbye: Indian Cricket Loses Its Wall After Shocking Retirement!

Cheteshwar Pujara retires from Indian cricket after a legendary Test career.

Cheteshwar Pujara, one of India’s most resilient Test batsmen, announced his retirement from all forms of Indian cricket on August 24, 2025, marking the end of an illustrious career. The 37-year-old from Rajkot, Gujarat, shared the news via a heartfelt social media post, reflecting on his journey from a small-town dreamer to a stalwart of Indian cricket. Pujara, who played his last of 103 Test matches in 2023, leaves behind a legacy of grit and determination.

“As a little boy from the small town of Rajkot, along with my parents, I set out to aim for the stars; and dreamt to be a part of the Indian cricket team,” Pujara wrote. “Wearing the Indian jersey, singing the anthem, and trying my best each time I stepped on the field—it’s impossible to put into words what it truly meant. But as they say, all good things must come to an end, and with immense gratitude I have decided to retire from all forms of Indian cricket.”

Pujara’s retirement follows the recent departures of teammates Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma from Test cricket earlier this year, signaling a significant transition for Indian cricket. With 7,195 runs at an average of 43.60 in Test matches, Pujara ranks eighth among India’s all-time leading run-scorers. His first-class career, spanning 21301 runs, cements his reputation as one of India’s most dependable batsmen, particularly known for his marathon innings and resolute defense.
