Praggnanandhaa Seeks Victory Against Bogdan-Daniel in Super Chess Classic Round 6

Praggnanandhaa faces Bogdan- Daniel, in round 6, seeks a win after a draw streak.

Indian Grandmaster R Praggnanandhaa will face Romania’s Deac Bogdan. Daniel is in the sixth round of the Super Chess Classic, part of the prestigious Grand Chess Tour, as he looks to end his streak of draws in the tournament. Praggnanandhaa currently remains among the joint second-placed players after five rounds in Bucharest and continues to stay in contention for the title despite securing only one victory so far in the competition.

Germany’s Vincent Keymer is leading the standings with 3.5 points after a strong start to the tournament. Half a point behind him is a closely packed chasing group consisting of Praggnanandhaa; Dutch Grandmasters Anish Giri and Jorden van Foreest; along with top-seeded American player Fabiano Caruana. The tournament has remained highly competitive, with only small margins separating the leading players after the opening rounds.

Caruana strengthened his position in the standings after defeating France’s Alireza Firouzja in a delayed fourth-round match that was completed during the rest day. The game had earlier been postponed after Firouzja reportedly suffered an ankle injury. Meanwhile, French Grandmaster Maxime Vachier-Lagrave and American player Wesley So are placed lower in the standings with 2.5 points each, while Uzbekistan’s Javokhir Sindarov remains close behind.

Praggnanandhaa has managed only one victory in the tournament so far, which came against Sindarov in the second round, while the remaining four games ended in draws. The Indian star now faces increasing pressure heading into the second half of the tournament as several challenging fixtures still remain. Following his game against Bogdan-Daniel, Praggnanandhaa is scheduled to face Caruana and Vachier-Lagrave in consecutive rounds before concluding the event against Anish Giri in the final round.

Vincent Keymer has emerged as one of the standout performers of the competition and has climbed to world number four in the live chess ratings following his strong performances in Bucharest. The German Grandmaster will play against Firouzja in the sixth round with the white pieces, and another victory could significantly strengthen his chances of securing the tournament title. Analysts believe Keymer’s consistency and preparation have given him a slight edge over the rest of the field so far.

The 10-player, nine-round tournament carries a total prize pool of USD 375,000, with USD 100,000 reserved for the winner. The Super Chess Classic marks the second event of this year’s Grand Chess Tour following the rapid event held in Warsaw earlier this season. The top four finishers from the tournament will qualify for the Grand Chess Tour finale scheduled later this year, making every remaining round crucial for players battling for both ranking points and qualification spots.
