Miguel Figueira joins Mohun Bagan on two-year deal.

Mohun Bagan Super Giant have strengthened their squad ahead of the 2026-27 Indian Super League season by signing Brazilian midfielder Miguel Figueira from defending champions East Bengal. The 26-year-old has joined the Mariners on a two-year deal after an impressive debut campaign in Indian football, during which he emerged as one of the league’s standout performers.

Figueira won the ISL Golden Ball after scoring two goals and providing five assists in 12 league appearances for East Bengal. He played a key role in the club’s title-winning campaign before making the switch to their biggest rivals. Prior to arriving in India, the Brazilian enjoyed a successful three-season spell with Bangladesh club Bashundhara Kings and also featured in Brazil’s Serie A.

Speaking to Mohun Bagan’s media team from Brazil, Figueira said he carefully considered the offer with his family before deciding to join the club. He described Mohun Bagan as the best club in the country and said the opportunity required serious consideration. After several days of discussions with his wife while negotiations continued, he decided to join the Mariners for the new season.

The midfielder said he was eager to experience the atmosphere created by Mohun Bagan’s passionate supporters, comparing them with football fans in Brazil. Having already played in Kolkata, Figueira said he understood the expectations surrounding the club and welcomed the pressure of competing for trophies. He added that he was excited to wear the green-and-maroon jersey in front of the supporters.

Figueira said his objective was to fight for every available trophy, including the ISL, Durand Cup and Super Cup. The Brazilian, who said he enjoys creating goals more than scoring them, also expressed excitement about combining with striker Jamie Maclaren. Having previously played against Mohun Bagan, he said he was aware of the standards and expectations associated with representing the club.

The Brazilian also acknowledged the significance of the Kolkata Derby against his former club East Bengal. Figueira said there was no match quite like the derby and promised to give everything to help Mohun Bagan win the fixture. He added that derby victories lift the spirits of supporters, while defeats can remain with them for days, underlining the importance of the rivalry.
