Laura Rutledge Opens Up: Feared Pregnancy Would End Her NFL Broadcasting Career

Laura Rutledge reveals she feared motherhood would end her NFL broadcasting career; now she balances both successfully.

NFL reporter Laura Rutledge has opened up about the emotional struggles she faced after learning she was pregnant for the first time, revealing that she initially feared motherhood could derail the football broadcasting career she had spent years building. The ESPN host admitted she worried pregnancy would slow her professional momentum in one of sports media’s most demanding industries.

Speaking on The Pivot Podcast, Rutledge said her first reaction to the news was disappointment because she believed becoming a mother might end her chances of continuing as a major television personality in football coverage. She recalled feeling intense pressure to keep accepting every work opportunity before starting a family, fearing that her career path would completely change afterwards.

Rutledge explained that even though other women had successfully balanced broadcasting and motherhood, she still struggled with anxiety about how the industry would view her. “I thought this was going to end my career,” she said, adding that she once believed she could not appear on television while pregnant. Her comments quickly gained attention online, with many fans praising her honesty about the pressures women face in sports broadcasting.
