Golfer Ajeetesh Sandhu Sees Cricket Swings in Golf: "Abhishek Sharma Would Excel at Golf"
Golfer Ajeetesh Sandhu explains how cricket and golf swings share similarities in rhythm, balance, and flow.
Professional golfer Ajeetesh Sandhu has highlighted the growing connection between cricket and golf, suggesting that modern cricketers possess natural traits that could translate well into the sport. Speaking about batting techniques, Sandhu specifically pointed to Abhishek Sharma, noting that his style resembles that of a golfer’s swing.
Sandhu explained that when he watches Abhishek Sharma finish a shot after hitting a six, it reminds him more of golf than cricket. He observed similarities in balance, rhythm, and follow-through, which are key elements in both sports. According to him, such technical overlap makes it easier for cricketers to adapt to golf.
The golfer also cited recent moments from the Indian Premier League, including an instance where Vaibhav Sooryavanshi struck a six off Jasprit Bumrah. Sandhu noted that the arc and flow of the bat during such shots closely mirror the mechanics of a golf swing, particularly in terms of timing and body coordination.

He elaborated that when a batsman connects cleanly with the ball and allows the bat to flow freely through the line, it reflects a “freewheeling” motion similar to a golf club swing. This smooth release, combined with controlled power, is a shared characteristic between the two disciplines.
Sandhu emphasized that while cricket and golf are fundamentally different sports, there are moments where the technical similarities become strikingly evident. These overlaps, he believes, open up possibilities for cross-training and skill development, particularly for cricketers looking to refine their swing mechanics.
The observations come amid a broader trend where athletes are exploring techniques across sports to enhance performance. As cricket continues to evolve with more emphasis on power-hitting and technique, such insights underline how disciplines like golf can influence training methods and athletic development.
