Complete FIFA World Cup 2026 Round of 16 fixtures and schedule.

The knockout phase of the FIFA World Cup 2026 has begun with a series of dramatic contests, as teams battle for a place in the quarterfinals. The Round of 16 has already produced thrilling moments, including stunning comebacks and penalty shootout exits for some of the tournament's biggest football nations. With several fixtures still to be played, the race for the last eight remains wide open as the remaining group winners and runners-up complete the knockout bracket.

One of the standout matches saw Belgium produce a remarkable 3-2 comeback victory over Senegal after trailing until the closing stages of normal time. Romelu Lukaku scored twice before captain Youri Tielemans converted a penalty deep into extra time to seal victory. The decisive goal, scored in the 124th minute, became the latest goal ever recorded in FIFA World Cup history. Belgium will now face co-hosts the United States in the Round of 16.

The knockout stage has also witnessed several major upsets. Germany and the Netherlands were both eliminated following penalty shootout defeats to Paraguay and Morocco respectively, ending the campaigns of two traditional football powers. As of July 2, ten teams have officially qualified for the Round of 16: Canada, Morocco, Paraguay, France, Brazil, Norway, Mexico, England, the United States and Belgium. The remaining six places are yet to be confirmed.

Attention will now turn to football legends Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, whose teams are still competing for qualification.
