Google Trends reveals an unexpected IPL team topped 2025 searches, beating all traditionally dominant franchises.
Punjab Kings, runners-up in IPL 2025, emerged as the most searched IPL team on Google throughout the year, outranking even champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru, five-time winners Chennai Super Kings, and Mumbai Indians. Google’s 2025 Year in Search data placed PBKS among the top global sports teams, behind only Paris Saint-Germain, Benfica, and the Toronto Blue Jays, highlighting the franchise’s dramatic rise in fan engagement.
Delhi Capitals finished second among IPL teams in search volume, followed by Gujarat Titans and Lucknow Super Giants. The rankings reflect sustained interest rather than single-event spikes, factoring in consistency and geographical spread across regions and countries.
Saurabh Arora, Chief Commercial Officer of Punjab Kings, hailed the achievement as validation of the franchise’s efforts to build an emotional connection. “This means a lot because it reflects a team and brand people genuinely feel connected to. Fans relate to the stories we tell, the culture we celebrate, and the identity Punjab Kings stands for,” he said.

Arora added that being ranked globally was “humbling” and proof that supporters are “invested, curious, and emotionally tied” to the team. He pledged to continue creating moments that bring fans closer both on and off the field.
Despite RCB ending their 17-year title drought with Virat Kohli finally lifting the trophy, Punjab Kings’ roller-coaster campaign—culminating in a heartbreaking final loss—and their aggressive brand storytelling captured the internet’s imagination throughout 2025.
The result marks a remarkable turnaround for a franchise long criticised for inconsistent results, underlining how off-field connection and on-field competitiveness combined to make PBKS India’s most talked-about IPL side of the year.
