Simon Harmer Stuns With 17 Wickets In 2 Tests, Earns ICC Player of The Month Nomination

Simon Harmer’s 17 wickets against India earn him an ICC nomination alongside Taijul Islam and Mohammad Nawaz.

South Africa’s veteran off-spinner Simon Harmer has been shortlisted for the ICC Men’s Player of the Month award for November 2025 after orchestrating a historic 2-0 Test series sweep over India—the Proteas’ first on Indian soil in 25 years. The 36-year-old claimed an astonishing 17 wickets at an average of 8.94 across the two tests in Kolkata and Guwahati, earning Player of the Match in the opener and Player of the Series overall.

Harmer’s standout performances included eight wickets in the first Test and a match-winning 6 for 37 in the second, where South Africa crushed India by 408 runs—their largest-ever victory margin against the hosts. His relentless accuracy and sharp turn on turning tracks dismantled India’s star-studded batting lineup twice in a week, marking one of the most dominant individual displays by a visiting bowler in India.

He faces stiff competition from Bangladesh left-arm spinner Taijul Islam, who took 13 wickets to secure a 2-0 home series win over Ireland and claimed Player of the Series honors, and Pakistan all-rounder Mohammad Nawaz, whose 11 T20I wickets and 156 runs across formats powered Pakistan to the Tri-Series title against Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe, also earning him Player of the Series.
