Lucknow Super Giants’ Top Scorer Misses IPL 2026 Clash Against Punjab Kings
LSG top scorer ruled out of Punjab Kings clash.
Lucknow Super Giants have suffered a major setback ahead of their final league-stage fixture in the Indian Premier League 2026, with top-order batter Mitchell Marsh ruled out of the crucial match against Punjab Kings, further impacting their already inconsistent campaign.
The Australian all-rounder has been one of the standout performers for the franchise this season and currently leads the team’s batting charts with 563 runs from 13 innings, including two centuries and three half-centuries. His absence comes at a critical stage, with Lucknow looking to end their season on a positive note despite already being eliminated from playoff contention.
Marsh’s unavailability has been confirmed ahead of the match scheduled on Saturday evening, though no official reason has been disclosed by the franchise so far. The development has left Lucknow Super Giants short of their most reliable run-scorer in a season where the team has struggled for batting consistency beyond a few individual performances.
The Australian batter’s absence is also being viewed in the context of his upcoming international commitments, with reports suggesting he may be set to lead Australia in an ODI series against Pakistan starting May 30 in Rawalpindi. However, there has been no formal confirmation linking his IPL withdrawal directly to national duty.
Within the Lucknow setup, skipper Rishabh Pant has had a relatively quiet season by comparison, scoring 286 runs in 12 innings, highlighting the side’s heavy reliance on Marsh for run production. The lack of consistent support from the middle order has been one of the key reasons for their failure to secure a playoff berth this year.
The match against Punjab Kings also carries broader implications for the playoff race. While Lucknow are out of contention, a defeat for Punjab could end their qualification hopes, depending on results involving Rajasthan Royals, Kolkata Knight Riders, and Delhi Capitals, all of whom remain mathematically in the hunt for the remaining playoff spots.
