Pappu Yadav's Son Sarthak Ranjan Slams 16-Ball 37 In KKR Intra-Squad Match at Eden Gardens

Young batter Sarthak Ranjan grabbed attention with a blistering knock during Kolkata Knight Riders’ intra-squad match at Eden Gardens on Friday, ahead of the upcoming Indian Premier League 2026 season. The 29-year-old son of politician Pappu Yadav smashed a quickfire 37 off just 16 balls while playing for the Golden Knights, led by Rinku Singh. His innings included five fours and two sixes, showcasing an aggressive approach and a strike rate close to 240.

Ranjan made an immediate impact by hammering 20 runs in a single over bowled by pacer Vaibhav Arora. His innings eventually came to an end when he was caught at third man off a delivery from Blessing Muzarabani.

The match featured two sides within the franchise, with the Purple Knights captained by Ajinkya Rahane. The intra-squad fixture served as a key preparation exercise for the team as it gears up for the new IPL season.

Ranjan, who was picked at his base price of ₹30 lakh in the IPL 2026 mini-auction, has been steadily rising through domestic cricket's ranks. His performances in tournaments like the Delhi Premier League helped him earn a spot in the KKR squad.

Following his impressive outing, Pappu Yadav took to social media to congratulate his son, encouraging him to continue performing and build his own identity in the sport. Ranjan’s knock is likely to strengthen his case as a promising option for KKR in the upcoming season.
