Gujarat Titans’ Anuj Rawat Praises Shubman Gill’s Improved Captaincy Ahead Of RCB Match

Anuj Rawat praises Shubman Gill’s improved, calm captaincy ahead of Gujarat Titans’ clash with RCB.

Gujarat Titans wicketkeeper-batter Anuj Rawat has praised skipper Shubman Gill for showing noticeable growth and maturity in his leadership during the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 season. Speaking ahead of Gujarat Titans’ upcoming clash against Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Rawat highlighted Gill’s improved decision-making and calm presence on the field.

Rawat emphasised the importance of maintaining consistent preparation and mental freshness during a long tournament like the IPL. He said players must continue their individual training routines even when not in the playing XI, as readiness both mentally and physically plays a key role in seizing opportunities when they arise. According to him, staying prepared helps players adapt quickly to changing match situations.

On Gill’s leadership, Rawat noted a clear evolution in his captaincy style over the past seasons. He pointed out that Gill has learned to balance aggression with composure, knowing when to attack and when to remain calm under pressure. Rawat also referenced Gill’s earlier captaincy experiences, including domestic and international exposure, as contributing factors to his improved tactical awareness and confidence.

Rawat further added that Gill’s calm approach has positively influenced the team environment. He said it is encouraging for players when a captain remains composed during high-pressure situations while still being assertive when required. This balance, according to Rawat, has helped create a more stable and focused dressing room atmosphere within the Gujarat Titans camp.

The wicketkeeper-batter also spoke about guidance from team mentor Matthew Hayden, particularly in improving his power-hitting abilities. He said Hayden has worked closely with him on generating bat speed and finishing innings strongly, which is crucial for his role in the middle order. Rawat credited the coaching staff for helping him refine his approach as a finisher.

Additionally, Rawat praised teammate Glenn Phillips, calling him an exceptional fielder and a valuable asset to the squad. He also reflected on his own IPL journey, having played for multiple franchises including Rajasthan Royals and Royal Challengers Bengaluru before joining Gujarat Titans in 2025.

As the Titans prepare to face RCB at the Narendra Modi Stadium, the team finds itself in the middle of a tightly contested season. With four wins from eight matches, they currently sit mid-table and are looking to strengthen their position. The upcoming high-profile encounter is expected to test both teams as they push for a stronger standing in the league phase.
