Delhi Capitals Reunite With Rishabh Pant While Lucknow Secure Kuldeep Yadav In Trade

High-profile IPL trade sees two Indian stars switch franchises.

Delhi Capitals and Lucknow Super Giants have completed one of the biggest player trades in Indian Premier League history, with wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant returning to Delhi Capitals and spinner Kuldeep Yadav moving to Lucknow Super Giants. The high-profile swap is set to reshape both franchises ahead of the upcoming IPL season, bringing significant changes to their squad balance and strategic plans.

Pant's return marks a homecoming for one of Delhi Capitals' most influential players. The left-handed batter spent nine seasons with the franchise between 2016 and 2024 and emerged as one of its most recognisable faces. During his time with Delhi, Pant made 111 appearances, the highest by any player for the franchise, and played several match-winning innings across formats. He also served as captain from 2021 to 2024, leading the side in 43 matches and helping establish a competitive core around which the team built its campaigns.

The move comes less than two years after Pant's headline-grabbing transfer to Lucknow Super Giants. At the 2025 IPL mega auction, he was acquired for a record Rs 27 crore, making him the most expensive player in the history of the tournament at the time. While expectations were high following the landmark signing, the latest trade sees Pant return to familiar surroundings at a revised valuation of Rs 15 crore. His return is expected to strengthen Delhi's batting unit while also providing the franchise with an experienced leadership option.

Kuldeep Yadav, meanwhile, leaves Delhi Capitals after a highly successful five-year spell. Since joining the franchise, the left-arm wrist spinner established himself as one of the most dependable bowlers in the league. Across 65 matches for Delhi, he claimed 72 wickets and consistently delivered breakthroughs during crucial phases of games. His ability to control the middle overs and dismiss established batters made him a key figure in the team's bowling attack and one of the most effective spinners in the competition.

For Lucknow Super Giants, Kuldeep's arrival addresses a crucial area of strength. The franchise gains a proven match-winner with extensive IPL and international experience. His variations, control and wicket-taking ability are expected to add depth to Lucknow's bowling resources and provide greater balance to the squad. Retaining his valuation of Rs 13.5 crore, Kuldeep is likely to play a central role in the team's plans as it aims to strengthen its title credentials in the coming season.

The trade represents a significant strategic shift for both franchises. Delhi Capitals regain a player deeply connected to the team's identity and fan base, while Lucknow Super Giants secure one of the league's premier spin bowlers. With Pant bringing leadership and firepower to Delhi and Kuldeep bolstering Lucknow's bowling attack, the blockbuster exchange could have a major influence on the competitive landscape of the next IPL season. As preparations begin for the new campaign, the impact of this trade will be closely watched by teams, players and fans across the league.
