BCCI Cracks Down After IPL Star Hosts Late-Night Room Visitors; New Guest Rules Enacted

The BCCI restricts late-night hotel visitors for IPL players; written permission is required after a senior player's repeated violations.

The BCCI’s Anti-Corruption Unit has reportedly tightened monitoring measures during IPL 2026 after concerns emerged over players hosting unauthorised visitors in hotel rooms late at night. The issue came into focus after a senior IPL player was allegedly found repeatedly entertaining a group of people inside his room well beyond permitted hours, prompting immediate intervention from the Anti-Corruption Unit.

According to reports, an ACU officer questioned the concerned team manager regarding the late-night meetings. However, the response reportedly appeared casual, with the manager allegedly defending the player by citing his senior status within the franchise. Former IPL officials claimed that some high-profile players often use their influence inside teams to bend established rules and protocols.

The incident has now pushed franchises and the BCCI to introduce stricter guidelines regarding player interactions with family members and friends during tournaments. Teams have reportedly instructed players to seek written or verbal permission before inviting guests to hotels where squads are staying. Officials have also advised that meetings should ideally happen in public areas such as hotel lobbies or restaurants instead of private rooms.

Another reported incident involved a player allegedly ignoring repeated calls from team officials before later returning to the hotel late at night accompanied by several friends. The matter was reportedly not pursued aggressively because of the player’s perceived closeness to franchise owners. Such incidents have increased concerns within the BCCI about maintaining discipline and preventing possible anti-corruption risks during the tournament.

While officials agree stricter checks are necessary, franchises are also trying to balance player privacy with security measures. Discussions are expected between IPL franchises and the BCCI regarding how these monitoring rules can be implemented effectively without becoming intrusive. The Anti-Corruption Unit has remained especially alert this season amid growing concerns over betting syndicates, unauthorised contacts and security vulnerabilities around the league.
